Amgen Breakaway Challenge - Ride

Your miles will make a difference in the fight against cancer and heart disease

Challenge Ended: June 12, 2019
Amgen is committed to unlocking the potential of biology for patients suffering from serious illnesses by discovering, developing, manufacturing and delivering innovative human therapeutics. This year, with its forces of Breakaway from Cancer and Breakaway from Heart Disease, Amgen is launching the Breakaway Challenge, a social movement, to help break away from cancer and heart disease together. The Breakaway Challenge motivates individuals to embrace and share the joy of a healthy lifestyle, providing an opportunity to create more meaningful moments with us while embarking on an initiative to fight cancer and heart disease.

Ride 40 miles to unlock your Strava digital finisher's badge, but keep going: participants of the Breakaway Challenge generate a dollar-a-mile donation from Amgen to the Breakaway advocacy partners by tracking their Strava miles through running (or walking) or cycling - up to 400,000 miles.

The Breakaway Challenge also has a fundraising component to support the Breakaway advocacy partners. In addition to contributing their physical distances, participants can also be involved with the Breakaway Challenge by setting up their individual or team fundraising programs. All the funds raised within the Breakaway Challenge period will be evenly distributed to the eight (8) non-profit Breakaway advocacy partners. The total $1-dollar-per-mile donations from Amgen and the total funds raised by the Breakaway Challenge participants will be distributed equally among the eight (8) independent non-profit Breakaway advocacy partners upon the conclusion of the Breakaway Challenge period.

Breakaway from Cancer non-profit partners include: Prevent Cancer Foundation, Cancer Support Community, Patient Advocate Foundation, National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, Susan G. Komen, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Breakaway from Heart Disease non-profit partners include: The American Heart Association (AHA) and FH Foundation.
